The new Quebec film, inspired by the hit TV comedy series, Les Bougon, that ran on Radio-Canada from 2004 to 2006, takes our most famous welfare family and tosses them into the political ring. They form a political party to speak for everyone in Quebec who’s fed up with the status quo — and the party discourse sounds not unlike the rhetoric coming from a certain reality-TV-star-turned-president south of the border.
The original series was a scathing satire, featuring a family on welfare hell bent on milking the system for all it’s worth. Most of the cast from the series star in the big-screen adaptation, including Rémy Girard and Louison Danis as the parents, Antoine Bertrand as their son Junior, Hélène Bourgeois-Leclerc as their daughter Dolores, and Claude Laroche as “Mononque Bougon.”
